Care for Self and Family

Many, if not all of us, are experiencing moments of anxiety during these days full of uncertainty and fear.  Most of us, especially those living in senior communities (who in the best interest of their health might be staying in their rooms) have experienced a sense of loss and lack of control.  Many people are dining alone and missing meals with family and friends.  I know this for myself, my family and my mom.

I find it mentally healthy to acknowledge my fears and anxieties and then intentionally take an action that changes my focus to hope and calms me.

Here are some ideas/suggestions that might work for you and/or your family members wherever they are living to create a new normal routine:

Stay connected – call or face time people, send cards of celebration

Pray/meditate – take time to pause and reflect.

Sit by a window in a comfy chair – knit, read, listen to music

Exercise your mind – play games, do puzzles, watch something funny, laugh

Exercise your body – dance, go outside – take deep breaths

For those isolated in a senior community, set up a birdfeeder outside their window, send flowers,  have staff turn on tv so can participate in a faith service, send cards – photos – music,  send them a bonTop clothing protector – so they can keep their clothes clean and be stylish while dining

Be inspired by spring – watch the flowers bloom

Please know we are thinking of you all – be sure to take care of yourself and LOVE

those around you.
