May, What a Wonderful Month!
May is such a special month full of blooming flowers, green grass, sunshine and acknowledging mothers on their special day. I am delighted to have the opportunity to introduce you to my mother,…..
My Mother-faithful, creative, connected and caring.
I just returned form a overnight visit with my mom. We had such a good time. There are so many things I love about my mom, I am so fortunate to have such a great mother. My mother, Ann Leonard Huser raised seven children (4 boys and 3 girls), after becoming a widow at 48 years old, that alone is an accomplishment. She is the proud grandmother of seventeen grandchildren. Lesson learned - faith.
Mom always was and still is full of ideas – As her grandchildren started arriving, Ann was adamant that children enjoy Christmas morning in their own homes. To solve the holiday dilemma, she created a new family holiday and named it Disseldoo Day. The date of the holiday changes every year depending on everyone’s availability. All 17 grandchildren look forward to exchanging Disseldoo gifts, a visit from the Disseldoo Lady (aka Gma H) and being together without the craziness of trying to gather on Christmas Day. I remember her making puppets out of the Styrofoam burger containers and suggested McDonalds use the puppets as a promotion. As you might think, McDonalds did not capitalize on her idea. She remained positive and focused her energies on the next idea and the next…. Lesson learned – creative.
I am fortunate that all my sons have a close relationship with my mom. She taught them the value of connecting with others and asking questions. She is very curious and we teasingly call her “the woman who knows no strangers.” Mom loves the opportunity to talk with anyone. One of mom’s recent wise thoughts is that “Life is a team sport.” She wants all of us to have the insight that we get through life as a team working together toward goals – whether the team be a family, sports team, her Girl Scout troop, or company. Lesson learned – connected
When we started the Live On Goods company, she participated in the photo shoot modelling the bonTops. She was skeptical of the product initially but now sees the value in the trendy adult bibs. She often visits longtime friends and family members. Mom frequently gifts the fashionable clothing protectors to those who would benefit from wearing them. Yesterday, mom and I visited a former neighbor and presented her with a Zash for her 90th birthday! The gift was a big hit. Lesson learned – caring.
As you can see my mom has given much and still has lots to offer. I look forward to my next overnight visit to Indy to spend time with her – thank you for all your love and support.
Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers.
Helen
